Feedstuffs in Focus || Strategies for managing PRRS in modern swine operations

PRRS (Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome) poses a year-round threat to farms of all sizes. Dr. Nic Lauterbach, Director of Technical Veterinary Services, shares insights on the Feedstuffs in Focus podcast, explaining how PRRS causes reproductive issues like abortions and stillbirths, as well as respiratory distress that weakens pigs’ immune systems, allowing secondary bacterial infections to take hold. While strict biosecurity remains the first line of defense, Dr. Lauterbach emphasizes the importance of a comprehensive response, including Pharmgate’s PRRSGard vaccine and effective management of bacterial complications, to help producers mitigate the virus’s impact.
